From beekeepers to big banks (I’ve written for TD and ING Direct), you name it, I’ve written for it. I get a kick out of writing persuasively, convincingly and—when it suits—conversationally, too. Check out a few examples of my work below. Then get in touch, if there’s something I can write for you.
Working first as a senior writer and then head of content with Gardenstead, I got to do the most amazing thing—write, plan and conceptualize content about gardening. As a bona fide plant enthusiast, I couldn’t have imagined a more wonderful gig. It was a splendid position with a great company and an amazing team. We grew a lot of things together, including our community—which we nurtured to include more than 500K gardeners.
We created videos about how to grow many things. This is one of my favourites — could there be a more beautiful ‘how to grow garlic’ video?
Urban farms bridge the gap between farmland and city living. By making fresh produce available to residents, they can play a imporant part in mitigating the problem of food deserts in large urban centres.
Sustainable gardening is, essentially, gardening with plants that can grow in and contribute to a given environment, without supplemental soil, water, or added nutrients. In this episode of the Gardenstead podcast, we learned more from experts on the subject.
Aaron Deacon is the founder of BIOS Nutrients, and an amazingly knowledgeable person about gardening, houseplants and soil. His all-natural fertilizers and plant care products are superb.
Over the course of a few years, I wrote many (many!) ads, for the Headwaters Health Care Foundation. Because the government does not fund the purchase of new hospital equipment, there was an ever-present need to speak eloquently to the community and give resonant, relevant reasons to donate. Below, a few of my favourites from the Foundation’s multi-year newspaper campaign.
The assignment: write some ads to run on the Gears website inviting cyclists to a (very) casual group bike ride. The kind of group ride in which there’d be zero pressure to perform—but some level of pressure to enjoy being out in the world on a bicycle. My kind of bike ride, frankly.
Throughout my freelance career, I’ve helped people in many different ways. If you’re not looking for a copy or content writer, I offer other kinds of support, too. Here’s a (not necessarily exhaustive) list of services I’ve provided. If you don’t see the exact thing you need listed, just ask!
Do you have a project in mind? Need a little help or not sure where or how to start? Drop me a line—I’ll let you know if I can help (and I’ll be honest if I can’t).
I usually respond within 1–2 business days.
